Social Distancing or Emotional Distancing
The most difficult thing for me to exercise during this health crisis is social distancing. Not being able to greet my friends or give hugs as I use to. COVID-19 has instilled fear in us to the extent that people are afraid of each other. A friend who used to greet each other with love, affection, hug, and or handshake is forbidden by a coronavirus. It is a good idea to be safe and keep a physical distance but we should not be fearful of interacting with each other. There is a difference between physical distance and emotional distance. The word social distancing is misleading because it will lead us to isolation. Whereas physical distance means we can still maintain a safe distance but greet each other with, a nod or other respectful gestures such as; an elbow-bump, gentle smile, or loving gaze.
Be mindful in the midst of chaos; meditate, relax (it is easier said than done but it is a matter of training your mind), and be aware of your surrounding without panic.
Be mindful that we should not prefer fear over compassion, affection, and love over panic and disorder. Keep Love and compassion alive that connects us all socially and create an emotional bond among us.
